So as I am near to the end of my legal studies (postgraduate currently doing the Bar), I suddenly find no use of my paperclips. So one day it struck me to make them into bracelets which was featured in my previous post here. I’ve never done this before, but I’m pretty sure almost everyone’s done it. Have you? Anyway, here’s a very simple guide on how I did it!

Here’s what I used:

  • Paperclips (mine were golden in colour)
  • Jumprings to tie the ends up (I used 4mm ones)
  • Lobster clasp (or bolt clasp)
  • A pretty button (or you can use charms)
  • Flat Nose and Round Nose plier (to connect those jumprings)

How To Do:

  • Slide the paperclip through! I used a maximum of 4 paperclips per column.
  • In the below photo, I used 4 and 3 paperclips per column to give it a fuller look.
  • Make sure it’s organised, if you’re using the pointy ends, then stick to it throughout.
  • Connect jumprings at both ends (using the pliers).
  • Choose one end to connect the lobster clasp.
  • Choose the other end and attach more jumprings as an extension.
  • End the extension with a cute button you’ve found! Or charms 😀
The end product should look like this:

Now you have a chunky paperclip bracelet! Stack ’em and have a great arm party! 😀 I paired mine with these amazing studded cuffs from Cuff and Neck!

I’ve now ran out of paperclips – but I managed to make 4 bracelets! Woohoo. If you do try these out, let me know how it goes – I’d love to see!

P.S: I’m finally done with my Advocacy exams – nerve wrecking but hopefully it went ok! Had a horrendous exam today (Opinion Writing) which lasted 5 bloody hours AND STILL NOT ENOUGH TIME, 2 more exams to go and a legal pro-bono porfolio to hand in and then I’ll be done (hopefully) with Bar school! Here’s hoping…

L-R: DIY yellow, gold and silver studded bracelets; Diamanté tassel bracelets from Urban Outfitters; thrifted gold bangle; ASOS; Kitson

My arm party for the day! I was feeling a bit stressy, and decided to embark on a little DIY on Thursday so I came up with a neon yellow charm bracelet + gold finishings, and a silver studded bracelet! Quite pleased as it took my mind off studying for a while.

I had a mock exam yesterday which lasted 3 hours but as we were to begin our lecturer says: Keep your MCQ answer sheets with you, as you will be self-marking them.

Did I hear her wrongly?

I turned around and everyone’s face was in disbelief. What then, is the point of this exam if it won’t be marked! Therefore, why would we need 3 hours to finish 4 short answer questions?!

FML.

P.S: I was good and finished within 3 hours – because I did the bloody MCQ questions.

Wore this lovely shrug cardigan I found while shopping in my closet. It’s never been worn! Poor thing.

2-finger rings are amazing as well – it’s like having 2 cupcakes for the price of 1!

Okay, that probably didn’t make sense but I just had a red velvet so you’ll have to excuse me…

Also, you can follow my fashion updates on WIWT (What I Wore Today) here! Besides the normal upload mechanism, the site has a very simple-to-use iPhone app which is free, for those iPhone users out there.

Started by Poppy Dinsey from the UK whose 2010 new years resolution was to wear more of what she had in her closet, she started a blog to document her daily wear (even when she was in hospital!). It gained so much popularity that WIWT was formed! It’s interesting to see what everyone else is wearing on a daily basis, and if your outfit looks fab it gets picked by Poppy herself as part of the daily “Editor’s Choice”! 😀 You should totally check out some crazy nail art in there as well, amazing!

Have a great weekend, all! It’s the start of the cold freeze, Newcastle and the rest of England has started snowing today!

I seem to enjoy weekends more these days, probably because I get to wear shorts when they roll around. That’s one day out of seven that I get to do this, seeing as how I work 5 and a half days a week.

One just can’t help but feel a tad miserable about it.

If only it was appropriate to turn up to work in shorts… especially in this kind of heat.

A girl can dream, eh?

Postgraduate Dressing: Graphic Tights?

14" vintage & navy satchel, DIY bracelets, dressing like a student, friendship bracelets, Givenchy, Graphic tights, Lady Gaga, The Cambridge Satchel Company, TOMS

One of the best things about being a student again is that I am allowed to dress like one. University hoodies, sport shoes, etc. The slouchier, the better.

Then there’s the issue of tights. LOTS of them. Specifically graphic tights.

Shopping around in my closet, I found a pair of floral graphic tights I had chucked in one of the boxes. I’ve only worn them once – to a Lady Gaga’s concert back in 2009. I’m not too adventurous when it comes to my legs… but okay, I try. (Well, it was more like I couldn’t find my black tights!)

Bag: Cambridge Satchel Company; Skirt: Jane Norman; Shoes: TOMS

Graphic tights can add some jazz to your legs, and in my case today 3 girlfriends found it super cute. The only male on the table said nothing and I’ve got a suspicious feeling it’s definitely one of those man-repeller piece of clothing :p

Everyone on the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) across England & Wales get Fridays off so we can go to our respective Inns (I’m in Lincoln’s Inn) on the weekend for dinings where we yes, literally dine. Spent today with some mates in the university to get work done so we can party with more ease on the weekend!

Under my ex-university hoodie was more man-repeller stuff from my “Hate Men” days:

My dad had expressed his dislike to this shirt before, I think he was offended because his services as the family ATM was unappreciated.

L-R Clockwise: Primark, Minty’s DIY, Peaches’ DIY, Beaded bracelets from Borneo

What’s being a student if you don’t wear friendship/festival/beaded bracelets?

The friendship gold-nugget bracelet in peach was made by Minty, I’m hinting she gets to send me some of her amazing DIYs over here 😉 Then I’ll really fit into the whole “hippie-festival-going” student look. HEHEHE.

This gesture will be reciprocated with Boots (There are no Boots in either Borneo nor Down Under hence the slight obsession) goodies. Oh yes, Minty. I know.

Shopping In My Closet

DIY bracelets, graphic tees, Shopping In My Closet, The Cambridge Satchel Company, vintage cardigan

I was telling Minty about “shopping in our own closets” just a moment ago and how we’ve accumulated so many things but rarely use them.

I finally got down to unpacking my boxes (which were in Manchester during my gap year), and found many items I’d forgotten about. Which is great – because it’s like getting presents all over again. Yay!

So I think I should start a whole series of “Shopping In My Closet”, and see what outfits I can concoct out of my closet. This will save a great deal of money!

Firstly, find the Principal Item for your outfit choice. I decided to go casual!

So, I found an old John Lennon + Yoko Ono tee:

The cool thing about this shirt is that it’s actually worn inside-out! I teamed it with my mum’s vintage sweater cardigan.

Secondly, a POP of colour! In this case, I used a new item which I recently bought, my 13″ pink Cambridge Satchel Company satchel!

13" Pink Cambridge Satchel Company x Asos

Lastly, anything goes, really!

The scarf was gifted by one of my best friends in NZ, and my minimalistic Arm Candy consists of DIY friendship bracelets (one was made by Minty), studded bracelets and old tortoiseshell bangles.

The leggings are an old pair from H&M, definitely one of those staples in your closet!

It was a bright and sunny day out today as I headed to the library, hence the sunnies. They are tortoiseshell from Police.

Flats are from Topshop, 2009 Spring/Summer season.

Don’t you think shopping in your own closet is a great idea especially in this bad economy? If you do it, please let us know!

PTW: Arm Candy – Friendship Bracelets

Chiffon Arm-Tie Top – GOSS:PS; Al Capone Sunglasses – Le Specs; Black Leggings – Diesel; Satchel – Blanco

The weather lately has been rather wonky from 38°C heat to torrential downpours complete with lightning and thunder. Maybe the monsoon season is arriving soon? That’s what you get living on the equator.

This loose chiffon top with its criss-cross-tie-it-yourself sleeves is perfect. Not too much arm flesh (I’ve got those chicken-wing ones; the result of on-and-off workouts), airy and those cute arm-tie bands make the top look cooler – if not, a really ordinary tank.

The only slight problem?

As the sleeves are tie-them-yourself, it gets loose when you happen to be moving you arms around…a lot. Which for me it happens…a lot.

*sigh* You can never win!

I bought this top at only RM55/£11 (which you can also buy online here) from GOSS:PS which has its store on Jalan Telawi 2, Bangsar Baru, Kuala Lumpur.

I frequent Jalan Telawi for one-of-a-kind finds and bargains whenever I’m in Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malaysia) instead of the malls because I get bored easily in shopping malls (did I hear you gasp?). I used to live there in my college days, and so it definitely holds a soft spot with me. There are few independent local designers in this area so do check Jalan Telawi in Bangsar when you’re there 😀

Lately I’ve been falling in love with friendship bracelets all over again. It reminds me of my younger days when my best friend and I would sometimes make colourful weaved cotton bracelets for each other and wear it till it fell off (usually in the shower!).

Experimenting with different threads and styles, I decided to make my own beaded friendship bracelets with the ever-helpful professional Minty that she is. So far, I’ve been getting nice reviews of them and some even commenting: “I’d definitely buy it!”

Me: Awww! *tear*

So here’s my arm candy today:

(L-R): Double Pyramid Wristband – ASOS; Black Cord & Cube – Whistles; Double Beaded Wristbands – ASOS; Mens Cotton Friendship Bracelet – ASOS; DIY Stringed Gold Friendship Bracelets in Navy & Silver; Mens Cotton Friendship Bracelet – ASOS

I wore my DIYs (Navy & Silver) with my other arm candy which I snapped up in the recent ASOS sale (which is still ongoing!). And yes, I like men’s accessories too!

Behind The Scenes: A beautiful mess?

I’m currently a sucker for friendship bracelets but sadly a lot of them are wayy too expensive. Think in the double to triple digits of USD and Pounds! 😦

So I think making my own is good for now 😀

Get an extra 20% off the ASOS sale before it ends in a few days, and grab some goodies before it all goes! Click below ↓

Have a great start to the week everyone!

P.S: Minty will be slightly MIA on this wordpress for a little while but not to worry…I will double the entertainment!

.

.

…right. I did not just say that!
